Case Study for Customer Location
CO65:
Reservoir or Lake Use:
Both the raw water holding pond and Lobo Reservoir are used for
drinking water for Jefferson County schools.
System Overview and Reservoir:
Raw water holding pond 2 surface acres, 14 ft deep, approximate
volume is 6 million gallons. Filter backwash is pumped into the
pond. Lobo Reservoir is 1 surface acre with a maximum depth of
10 ft.
Reported Problem Before Installation:
The pond and reservoir had a history of blue-green algae blooms,
poor circulation, sludge accumulation on the bottom, and
insufficient dissolved oxygen in water column.
Installation:
Date: May 2001, installed one (1) unit equal to SB2500, solar
powered. In May 2004, a SB2500 was installed in nearby Lobo
Reservoir.
Results:
The unit was able to eliminate algae problems, improve
circulation, eliminate the need for a typical aeration system
(and associated turbulent biological conditions as well as costs
for energy, operation and maintenance), improve processing and
stabilization of the existing organic sludge blanket thus
eliminating costs for sludge removal. Plant Manager reports that
the unit is working well and is doing everything it was supposed
to do. He is very happy and satisfied with the results. In fact,
the success of the unit in the raw water holding pond prompted
the City of Lakewood to purchase a second unit for Lobo
Reservoir in 2004. The customer continues to be happy with the
results from both ponds.
